David Rubin – Chef & Traveler
During an 18hour stay in San Jose, on my way to the national parks in the north of Costa Rica, I met David. When I came back from the breakfast buffet, he was sitting at my table.
David, who was born in the USA, decided to sell his house and start traveling the world at the age of 60.
Being trained as a chef and baker, he had worked as a private chef for people like the governor of Texas, Ann Richardson
or the country singer Bonnie Raitt. For the last 17 years he was running a bed & breakfast including a little organic farm in Austin, Texas.
His grandfather who was a jew, emigrated from Berlin in 1941 to the US, fleeing the Nazi regime. His mother is from Austria.
Because it was his father’s dream to travel to Spain and Portugal, but was never able to, David wants to take his 86-year-old mother with him this summer. Afterwards his journey should continue to Germany, Thailand and Australia .
“I love to travel, but I got so tied up in work and never had time.
Now I am selling my house and start to see the world!”
